Most patients will be familiar with prescriptions which are signed and issued by doctors which allow you to receive your medicines.
Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group has introduced an initiative to get better value for your money on prescription medicines. Every year in Bedfordshire alone over half a million pounds is spent on some prescription medicines that are ‘poor’ value for money, which is money that we are not able to spend in other areas of healthcare.
Therefore the Practice will no longer be prescribing these particular medicines:
By spending less on medicines like these the money saved can be used for treating longer term conditions such as asthma, cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure.
The doctors, and practice staff would appreciate your support and understanding by not being asked to provide a prescription for these products.
A repeat prescription is a medication that your doctor has authorised on your medical records which can be supplied for a certain period of time on a regular basis without you needing to see your doctor each time. Repeat prescriptions are normally authorised for a period of 6 to 12 months but this may vary with the type of medicine and at the doctor's discretion.
Your doctor will usually give you your first prescription which will have 2 parts. The GREEN slip is the actual prescription which you give to the pharmacist to obtain your medication. The WHITE side shows the list of drugs that you can order as repeat issues. We also call this the repeat counterfoil. Please keep this as you need it to order more medication.
To order more medication:
Please mark only those items that you need by ticking each item on the Counterfoil. Please do not tick items that you do not need.
Then place the Counterfoil in the prescription request box in the porch at the surgery. Please give the Practice 2 days excluding weekends and Bank Holidays before collection.
Please make your request in good time to ensure that you do not run out of medication. Please do not stock pile medication.
Other ways to order repeat medication:
We are unable to take requests over the telephone. This is for your own safety and security so we appreciate your understanding.
The current charge for each item issued is £8.20.
Some people are entitled to free prescriptions. Examples include:

Unfortunately we are unable to offer a dispensing service to patients who live within a mile (as the crow flies) of a chemist
Our Dispensary is staffed by qualified Dispensers (Monday - Friday 8.30am - 12.30pm and 2.30pm - 5.30pm) who will be able to deal with any queries you may have about your medication. Dispensary also offer telephone appointments to deal with any queries you may have, please book through reception.
Prescriptions and dispensed medication may be collected from reception when the surgery is open. However if dispensary is closed, receptionists will not be able to deal with any medication queries.

All chemists in the town offer a collection service, which means you order your prescription from us then contact the chemist of your choice and ask them to collect two working days later, you then go directly to that chemist to collect the medication.
