Clinical Pharmacist

Leighton Road Surgery is a dispensing teaching practice with approximately 22,500 patients over 2 sites within the town and we are looking to recruit a highly motivated clinical pharmacist to join our team. We currently have a clinical pharmacist however, we are looking to expand the role of the pharmacist team.

The role of a pharmacist within the surgery is diverse and includes:

  • Management of long term conditions
  • Supporting the multidisciplinary team with medication related issues
  • Medication reviews such as those for frail patients, polypharmacy and post discharge
  • Minor illness management
  • Undertaking clinical audits
  • Supporting clinical governance
  • Visits to patients’ homes for medication reviews
  • Attend and contribute to MDT meetings

The post holder will need to provide strong operational and strategic leadership to the dispensary department and will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary general practice team, providing a high quality dispensing service as well as making a valuable contribution to the patient experience and business.  You will provide direct, accessible and timely medicines expertise, delivering direct patient consultations and prescribing.

Our Practice actively promotes self-management and you will play an important role in this. The successful candidate will also play a key role in organising and overseeing repeat prescribing, repeat dispensing, electronic prescribing and medication review systems.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate an ability to maintain effective financial control of prescribing spend, have excellent communication and IT skills and have a proven track record in operational management and delivering front facing pharmacy services.
